July Book Round-Up

Image
I didn't read as much books as I wanted to this month - only 4 out of 6. I figure this is OK though, since one of those books was over 700 pages long. In July I read the following books: I really enjoyed the plot of this book, the only problem was some parts dragged on so much. There was a lot of unnecessary description. Other than that, the story was pretty good.  I loved this book - I need to get my hands on anything else written by Rainbow Rowell. The only problem is, I really wish the Simon Snow series was real, because this book made me really want to read it!  Another book that I loved. It took a while to get used to the writing style, and the way the novel is set out, but I loved how the two characters' lives entwined, and I loved the ending.  This was a little disappointing - I was hoping for a better ending to the series. I didn't really like the addition of the new characters in the book. I can see why they are there, but I found mysel

What's Up Wednesday

What’s Up Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Erin L Funk and Jaime Morrow , and the idea is to let other bloggers know where you are with any writing and reading goals you may have. I haven't taken part in a few weeks, I've missed it!  1. What I'm reading Since the last time I took part in this meme, I've read the following books: Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff, Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan, and City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare. Stormdancer was my least favourite, while Fangirl was my favourite - I've decided I love all things Rainbow Rowell. I really wish the Simon Snow series was a real thing so I could read it! I'm currently reading Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor. 2. What I'm writing Pretty much nothing at the minute; Camp NaNo did not go like I hoped it would. I'm not going to let it get to me, though; it just wasn't meant to be

Celebrate the Small Things

OK, so it's been a really long time since I posted! Sorry to anyone who commented, and sorry that I haven't been making the rounds lately. Our internet stopped working, and we couldn't get it fixed for nine days (it was awful). We finally got it working last Sunday, but then I was away all week visiting my boyfriend and sister since I was off work. I'm back now, so I'll try to catch up on all of your latest blog posts. So, finally, here are my celebrations from the last two weeks: - The internet is working! Seriously, I have really missed blogging. I love reading all of your blog posts. - I got a new graphics card! Unfortunately, I couldn't set it up for five days since I needed the internet for the drivers. My mum also got a new phone that we couldn't set up because we needed the internet for it, too. It really was quite funny. - I watched The Book Thief last week, and I really enjoyed it. I've had the book on my Kindle for a while, so I can

Celebrate the Small Things

Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop hosted by Viklit over at Scribblings of an Aspiring Author . The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week. This week I'm celebrating:  - Going to the gym regularly - since I started at my new gym I've been going about 4 times a week, which is great for me! I'm really enjoying it, which I never thought I'd say.  - My manager said yes to some time off work I wanted - a week from the 20th July. I'm really excited, first because I've been working 6 day weeks and really need a break, and also because my sister is also off work that week and we don't get to see each other much since I moved away. We're planning on having a Lord of the Rings marathon.  - I've got a new graphics card coming! My lovely boyfriend offered to pay for it since I don't have the money right now (I also have four new tyres to buy for my car) and I'll pay him back later. I'm glad, b

June Book Round-Up

I decided I'm going to start doing monthly posts about the books I've read in the past month, and the ones I'm going to read in the next month. I find that doing this means that I get more reading done. In June I read the following books: The only reason I read this book was because I'd read the first two in the series - the books got worse as they went along, and I didn't enjoy this one at all.  This was my first experience reading Rainbow Rowell, and I loved it! Such a great novel, although I was a tiny bit disappointed by the ending. I've got Fangirl on my shelf all ready to read. Another book that I loved - the take on Cinderella was original and so fun to read. I can't wait to get my hands on the next in the series.  This was my favourite book that I read this month - I absolutely loved the world, the plot and the characters. Again, I can't wait to read the next in the series.  I got an early copy of this one i

Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop hosted by Viklit over at Scribblings of an Aspiring Author . The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week. This week I'm celebrating:  - I went to see The Fault in Our Stars on Sunday, and it was amazing! I cried buckets, of course, but it was such a good film and I can't wait until it comes out on DVD so I can watch it whenever I want. It also made me really want to re-read the book.  - I spent a good two days with my boyfriend this week (more time than we usually get together) and we had a great time. We went shopping and out for a meal; it was nice doing something other than staying in and watching TV.  - Camp NaNo started this week!  - I joined a new gym on Saturday, and I love it! It's much better than my old gym, and I think I'll definitely go more regularly because of that.

Goals for July

I didn't do so well with my goals in June: - Get up to chapter 12 of my NaNo novel re-written - I didn't manage this. I got to about chapter 5 in the end. June was a busy month for me; I was working 6 day weeks so I didn't get a lot of time for writing. - Read 6 books - I almost made this one - I got 5 books read. I still think that's pretty good, so I'm not too disappointed with this goal. - Plan for Camp NaNo - I didn't get as much planning done as I'd like, but I don't mind too much. I'm doing short stories and flash fiction, which I don't usually do much planning for anyway.  Here's hoping I'm more successful with my goals for this month. I'm keeping it simple, so I should manage it. Here are my goals for July: - Complete Camp NaNoWriMo - I've set 31,000 words as my goal, so that's 1000 words a day. I'm off to a slow start, but I'm sure I'll get there.  - Read 6 books - Hopefully I'll be

IWSG and What's Up Wednesday

The Insecure Writer's Support Group was created by Alex J. Cavanaugh as a place where writers can talk about their insecurities once a month, and receive encouragement and support from other writers. It's such an amazing group, it even has its own website now, which you can visit here . I can't believe it's July already! Time flies when you're having fun (or when you're really busy with work!) I'm not feeling too bad at the minute with regards to my writing. Camp NaNoWriMo started yesterday, but I haven't actually written anything for it yet. My boyfriend came to Hull on Monday (he lives about an hour away). It's usually me going to visit him, so it was nice that he came here for once. However, it did mean that I didn't get any time to write. He's gone home now, so I should get started tonight. I'm really excited because I'll be writing lots of short stories instead of one novel, and I've got some really good ideas.
