Water: Part 2!

Image
So I decided to carry on with my 'Water' story this week, so here is part two! If you want to read part one, you can find it here . Constructive criticism is welcome, so let me know what you think :) Water: Part 2 Taken from here Alexia had waited 7 long days for a chance to explore her newfound ability. Ever since she’d accidentally made it rain, she’d been anxious to see if she could do anything else, or make it happen again.   Alexia had decided to travel to Lake Viridus, as there would be plenty of water there and she was unlikely to be disturbed. Lake Viridus was the only lake in the country, unless you counted the temporary ones that sprang up after small bouts of rain. Nobody could understand why it  didn't  dry out in the hot weather like the others; its emerald waters stayed at the same height no matter how much, or how little rain fell. This was one of the reasons why people didn’t visit the lake; they didn’t trust it.  Clambering onto a boulder by t

My New Bedroom!

Image
Yay, my bedroom is finally finished! It's been mostly finished for about a week, but we've been waiting on a mattress for the bed, which finally arrived today! So I'm looking forward to a good nights sleep in my new double bed tonight :) Here are some pictures: This one's a bit dark, but I couldn't get it to come out any lighter! It just shows the bed, wallpaper, curtains and my old wardrobe :) This is my new bed, which I'm very excited about as before I was sleeping in a bunk bed!  A close up of the windowsill, with some purple accessories on it: A candle, a lantern, and a candle holder. And here's my chest of drawers at the other end of the room, with the plain purple wallpaper behind it. I'm loving my purple lamp and the jewellery tree, I never knew I had so many necklaces! So that's my bedroom, and that's my post for today! Although the bedroom is finished, I do have some ideas of other things I'd like in it, such as a dr

The Hunger Games!

Image
Ok, here's my post of favourites from The Hunger Games, but you'll have to bear with me because I haven't read them in so long, so the details are a little hazy! I really need to re-read them! Taken from here Favourite Book: The Hunger Games, because this is where it all started and I loved being introduced to all of the characters and storylines. I also loved the actual games in this book, and the love story between Peeta and Katniss. And I loved the twist at the end! I do love Catching Fire nearly as much :) Favourite Main Character: Katniss, because she's such an interesting character! She's so brave, and I love how she volunteered for the games in the place of her sister. Taken from here Favourite Secondary Character: I love Cinna, because he's so honest and he makes awesome outfits for Katniss! I also love the tributes that Katniss and Peeta allied with in Catching Fire, some interesting personalities there! Favourite Villain: President Snow,

Music!

Image
I was going to do a part two of last week's writing for this post, but I ran out of time to write it! I've had a very busy week, what with my uncle coming over, so I quickly wrote the following flash fiction instead. The inspiration came from my sister, who got scared the other day when she went to bed because she heard the sound of a piano (it was probably the cat jumping on my keyboard). Enjoy! Music Taken from here Emily switched off her computer and sighed; another night spent on her own because of her mum’s stupid work hours. She padded around the empty house, checking that all the doors and windows were locked and the lights turned off before going into her bedroom to get ready for bed. As she turned to close the door behind her, she heard a sound which made her pause: it was the tinkling of piano keys. Wondering if she’d left the radio on downstairs, Emily sighed again and made her way through the dark house. The piano playing grew louder, and she realised

Baking and Soundtrack of my life!

Image
This week I've been doing a lot of baking, so I thought I'd put up some pictures of what I've made. First my mum and I made a chocolate cake for my dad for father's day: He let me have a slice before he took it home, and it was gorgeous! I was going to spell out 'Happy Father's Day' with the stars, but I got as far as 'Happy Fat-' before I realised that you couldn't actually tell they were letters, so I just dumped the whole lot on the top! My Uncle, who lives in Bridlington, has come down to visit us for the week, so we did some baking together yesterday. First we made some blueberry muffins, since we had some blueberries in the fridge: I've never made muffins before, and these were lovely! I love blueberries and I love cake, so these were definitely perfect for me! We made some lemon drizzle cake after that, which I have also never made before: These turned out lovely as well, and the lemon glaze that my uncle made for the top wa

Twilight!

Image
That's right, a post about the Twilight series, so if you don't like it, I give you permission not to continue reading! I enjoyed writing my post on Harry Potter last week, so I thought I'd do the same kind of thing for some other book series' that I like. The Twilight series is probably my second favourite series (Harry Potter being my favourite). I read it before the movies came out, before it was as popular as it is now. I have to admit, I really don't like the movies and I can see why people don't like Twilight because of them. Taken from here Favourite Book: My favourite book of the series is New Moon, because I love all of the emotions that I go through while reading it. I also love seeing how Bella behaves when Edward isn't there, and I love her relationship with Jacob! They have a lot of fun together and I love their banter, so it's fun to read. Of course, I also love it when Edward comes back at the end :) Favourite Character: I think

Water

Image
Time for my first regular writing post! All week in my spare time I've been thinking "I must write something for Saturday" but of course, me being me, I left it 'til last minute, so what you're about to read is pretty rushed, but I hope you all like it anyway. I'm also really tired from work, so it may not make a lot of sense! I write better on my days off! Anyway, let me know what you think! :) Water Taken from here She had always loved the feeling of rain on her skin; it made her feel clean and refreshed, and was a welcome relief from the usual heat. Today was one of those days: the heat from the sun was scorching, and it made her daily chores that much more difficult to complete. Her mouth was dry with thirst, and a cloud of dust rose with every step she took, settling on her bare legs. If only it would rain! She longed for some rain to fall, but that only happened a few times a year, and never during summer. She looked up at the sky, and to

Funny Stuff!

Image
This Thursday's random post is going to be used to share some funny pictures and videos I've found this week! Here's a video by Tobuscus, a very funny guy on youtube. Everytime I watch this video, I can't help but burst into laughter, I just find it so funny! His other stuff is great, too: Here's a video by the Key of Awesome, who also have some very good stuff on youtube. It's a parody of Maroon 5/Game of Thrones: And here are some funny blogging cartoons I stumbled across while doing a layout for an article earlier in the week: Taken from here Taken from here Taken from here Taken from here Taken from here And there you have it, my very lazy blog post for this Thursday! Hope you enjoyed it :)

Favourite Ever Book!

Image
So, this is my first themed 'reading' post, and I thought it would be a good idea to focus on my all time favourite book series: Harry Potter. Taken from here I first read the series when I was quite young, and I've re-read each book about 10 times! I already loved reading before I discovered Harry Potter, but it definitely encouraged me to read even more. I don't like the movies as much as the books, but they're still ok for my Harry Potter fix! Here are some of my favourites: Favourite book: Deathly Hallows, because I love the rollercoaster ride that it is! It's certainly the most emotional book of the series for me, and I love the scene where Harry is walking into the forest to face his death. I also think it has some of the most dramatic scenes, and I love the fact that Snape is a good guy in the end! Taken from here Favourite trio character: It's got to be Harry! I love the fact that he's not the perfect hero - he has a really bad t

More Awards!

Image
There seems to be an awful lot of awards going around the Blogosphere lately! I have three more to accept today, so I hope you're not bored of them! First, I've been given a brand new award, made by Sabrina at Pouffia : The Fabulous Blog Ribbon! Here are the rules: 1. Post the rules on your blog. 2. Name five of your most fabulous moments, either in real life or in the blogosphere. 3. Name five things you love. 4. Name five things you hate. 5. Pass the Ribbon on to five other bloggers. (Leave them a comment to notify them of this.) My five most fabulous moments: 1. Passing my driving test (best feeling ever!) Although it was my third time lucky! 2. Buying my car and realising I could go wherever I wanted, whenever I wanted to. 3. Graduating from University. 4. Realising that people actually read my blog, and getting 100 followers on it! 5. The day I realised that being a teacher was not for me, and that I could try Journalism instead (which suits me a lot better

New Blog Schedule (Again!)

Image
Ever since I started my blog in February, I've been painfully aware that it doesn't actually focus on anything. If someone had asked me what the theme of my blog was, I wouldn't know what to say! Because of this, I haven't been putting as many posts up as I could have, in case it seemed like they wouldn't belong on my themeless blog. Also, I didn't want to write about things that other bloggers might not want to read about. I've been thinking about this over the last few days, and decided that I really need to change my way of thinking. So, I'm going to start writing about things that are interesting to me, and that I want to write about, rather than worrying about what other people want to read. Thus, my new schedule was born! I'm going to carry on doing posts on Mondays and Thursdays, but I'll also be adding a Saturday post. I had a think about what I enjoy doing most, and came up with themes for my Monday and Saturday posts. Taken from

My goals for June!

Image
I've decided that as part of my blogging schedule, I'll be writing a post at the beginning of each month about the goals I want to accomplish by the end of it. I'm hoping this will make me more motivated! So, here are my goals: Taken from here 1. Finish reading Game of Thrones - I've been reading it since January, and I really don't like taking to long to read one book, especially when there are so many unread ones waiting on my bookshelf! 2. Finish decorating my bedroom - it's very nearly done, we just need to finish wallpapering and put the furniture back, and then the hard part: putting my new bed up! It shouldn't take too long to get this done, since we're doing the wallpapering tomorrow and the bed's coming on Wednesday. Taken from here 3. Practise on my keyboard - I haven't played it in months, so I'm determined to practise a lot from now on! My main problem is there are so many songs that I want to learn to play, I just
